At OzBall, we believe that our young athletes have the potential to compete with the best in the world, especially in the early stages. However, one critical factor holds us back: the limited number of games our kids play each year.
While players in the United States regularly play 80-100 games annually, in Australia that number is drastically less. We are looking to try and bridge that gap as best we can.
Mafia in 2025
As we reflect on two incredible seasons of Mafia Baseball in 2023 and 2024, we are overwhelmed with pride and gratitude for the success we’ve achieved together. The passion and dedication displayed by our players, parents, and coaches have been nothing short of remarkable. Your unwavering support has been the driving force behind our progress, and we now eagerly prepare for the 2025 season.
However, following our recent Commissioners meeting, we have identified areas for improvement. While players are competing longer in games and showing remarkable resilience, certain persistent challenges require attention:

- Enhancing strength and conditioning (S&C) to reach optimal fitness levels.
Program Features
Stronger Arms, Fewer Injuries
Contrary to popular belief, playing more games strengthens young athletes’ arms, reducing the likelihood of injury. Studies show that 85% of arm injuries occur in kids who play year-round and don’t participate in other sports.

More games mean more chances for players to pitch and catch, helping them develop the diverse skill set needed to excel in the game.

5 Star Roo’s Mafia Game Days: What to Expect
At 5 Star Roo’s Mafia, we’re committed to giving your child the best possible baseball experience, with a structured approach to game days that maximizes player development and fun.
Here’s what a typical game day will look like:

Pre-Game Warmup:
Each game day kicks off with a structured warmup session 1 hr prior to the scheduled start time.
During this time, players will have the opportunity to stretch, practice throwing, and prepare mentally and physically for the game ahead.
This essential part of the day ensures players are ready to perform at their best once the game begins.
Game Time:
Players will compete in fully structured 2 hrs games.
Our focus is on maximizing gameplay for every child, ensuring they get valuable in-game experience while also having fun.
Team Formation & Structure:
To ensure every player has enough playing time, teams will be selected based on final registration numbers, and player numbers per team will be limited.
This setup allows for balanced competition and ensures that all players can fully participate.
When signing up, parents will need to fill out a registration form detailing their child’s previous playing history to help with team selection.
Age Brackets:
17U: 1st May 2007 – 30th April 2010
14U: 1st May 2010 – 30th April 2012
12U: 1st May 2012 – 30th April 2015
Registration Options:
Players register and are then placed in a draft system and divided amongst 4 teams acrsoos each age division.
This means spots are limited as we have a max roster size of 12 players per team.
Costs:
The cost for the season is $1200 for new players and we have put together a special price for last year’s players due to the weather limiting games.
