5 Star Victoria are Elevating Baseball Development in Victoria
Compete with the Best
At OzBall, we believe that our young athletes have the potential to compete with the best in the world, especially in the early stages. However, one critical factor holds us back: the limited number of games our kids play each year.
While players in the United States regularly play 80-100 games annually, Victorian players typically only participate in 19 games during a summer season. The winter competition feels like an afterthought, more about filling the gaps than about proper development.

Why More Games Matter for Player Development
We believe playing more games during the summer season is both feasible and essential for better player development. A higher concentration of summer games will allow kids to focus on baseball, while leaving the winter season for other sports and recovery. This periodization approach, used by elite athletes worldwide, builds overall athleticism and helps prevent burnout.
To develop into serious prospects, whether for college or professional scouting, players need to grow athletically, mentally, and emotionally. After consulting with top high school and college coaches in the U.S., as well as Major League Baseball veteran Rich Thompson, we are confident that playing a minimum of 80 games per year is crucial for a player’s growth.
Program Features
Stronger Arms, Fewer Injuries
Contrary to popular belief, playing more games strengthens young athletes’ arms, reducing the likelihood of injury. Studies show that 85% of arm injuries occur in kids who play year-round and don’t participate in other sports.
More Opportunities
More games mean more chances for players to pitch and catch, helping them develop the diverse skill set needed to excel in the game.

5 Star Roo’s Mafia Game Days: What to Expect
At 5 Star Roo’s Mafia, we’re committed to giving your child the best possible baseball experience, with a structured approach to game days that maximizes player development and fun.
Team Formation & Structure:
To ensure every player has enough playing time, teams will be selected based on final registration numbers, and player numbers per team will be limited. We will be running 2 age groups this season, 12U and 14U, both will play Fridays and 12U will also play Tuesday and 14U on a Monday.
This setup allows for balanced competition and ensures that all players can fully participate.
When signing up, parents will need to fill out a registration form detailing their child’s previous playing history to help with team selection.
